The Epsom Derby Stakes – 27th January 2018

Epsom Derby

A terrific turn of foot and top rider Judith Eakes could be key to Pugstable’s Kings Best making it a cup double in Saturday’s Epsom Derby Stakes. Dixon Racing’s smart three year old filly Secret Diza has only had one prep run and further improvement is expect.

Pre-race comments from:

Dixon Racing– “Diza is very much a work in progress right now and showed in the heat that she’s not quite up to it yet. I expect Kings Best and Hope` to fight it out. Good luck to all.”

Imperial Babanga – “Don’t put your hard earned money on my horse lol . I am just trying to be more active in this game. I thought it was time after 4k+ race starts to start actually entering cups. Getting into the final was all I was hoping for this season. You will hopefully see my horses in a few more finals. But Black Raven is just a filler horse in this race 🙂 .”

noseinfront – “I am very pleased with Velveret Hometown going into this race. He has raced well in every race so far, once being over the epic distance. There was a bit left in reserve after the heat so he should be very competitive. My only worry is having a quite an inexperienced jockey. I am expecting a top 5 finish though.”

Pugstable – “I will be looking at the exacta with Craig’s horse Secret Diza who looks the obvious danger. Kings Best has improved with every run and could find his best again, if he is given as good a ride as he had in the Grand Prix final. I will be backing him each way.”

Fairlawns – “I’ve entered lightning into the Derby so that I can gain xp for both horse and jockey. I’m tweaking race and jockey instructions, I’ll get it right soon.We have no realistic chance of a top three place but it’s all a learning curve. I’m still enjoying the game and these races are top competition and I get a kick from that. Good luck all.”

Windmill Racing – “My horse Let Them Eat Cake won his heat, gets his ground on Saturday and is perfectly bred for the distance. He should be able to get an early lead for his style to kick in. However he was found out in the regionals previously, doesn’t have his ideal jockey and he lacks XP. He is therefore unlikely to win and I expect him to get swamped at around the 1600m mark by superior horses but hold on for a top 5 finish – that would be a successful result in this kind of company.”

doneill – “I’d be happy with a top 5 here. My jock is not up to scratch and the horse is a little behind where it should be. More a fact finding mission than anything else.”
