The 3yo Short Breeder Cup – 18th August 2018

Effective over the sprint distances, the season 2yo Sprint Breeder Cup winner of last term Heatseeker, just run third in her first start over the short distance. Her laid-back style of racing often means she needs to make up ground and beat her way through traffic when the race is over. She ran a poor eight in the Golden Slipper. An inquiry was opened and no action taken after no evidence could be found that the jockey pulled the horse deliberately up to benefit the bookies.

Dirty Dirty Girl is a classy filly and loaded with ability. But the stable has a habit of finding something to beat them. Can they pull it off today?

DR Stables Hell Or High Water made a winning start to his three year old career in his last start on trying underfoot conditions. The son of Patrobas gets an opportunity from a decent draw to show how good he is. He takes on opponents with experience of the turn, so this will be a test.

Elysium Arshavin has contested two cups in his career so far without finishing far back. Highly regarded by his connections, he can set the record straight here.

Arrival stays well and won the Sires Produce last season. She is very capable, and adds to the puzzle of a fascinating race.

Northern Superman, Finch Newman Vader and Enuff Tripper have a tough task in this field.

Sweaty jumps from a wide gate and after finishing in his heat, could earn in this field.

Makers Mark SIV – “Dirty Dirty Girl has trained pretty well and is starting to hit her stride. She has tuned up nicely and should give them a run for their money on this muddy track. DR, Turks, and Ezulwini all have really nice horses. Guess we will see if it will be the Muddies or the Stalkers crossing the finish line first.”

Northern Light Acres – “A top 5 finish for Superman would be amazing for Northern Light Acres. We’re hoping by saving some energy in the qualifiers he can run a better race in the final, but Arrival is going to be hard to beat.”

DR Stables – “Hell Or High Water will be racing out of his element in the short final. He is a sprinter and the added distance maybe too much to over come. If he can last the distance, top 5 is a possibility in this quality field. I see a few horses with a chance of winning. Good luck to all.”

Bristol Turks – “With the going slow it’s difficult to see past the muddies in this one. I think Inca’s muddy is the one to beat. Heatseeker in to gain some experience and build rapport with the jockey. A place in the money would be very welcome.”

Ezulwini – “I think one should expect the mud-larks to dominate this one, given the weather, but Arrival ran a really good heat and maybe she can deliver a nice surprise.”

doneill – “This is a learning brief for me. Breakaways are a style I know nothing about. I’m hoping for a top 5 but this should be a battle for the muddies.”
