The Cox Plate – 24th June 2017

Cox Plate

St Simon Racing brings the Epsom Derby winner Captain’s Secret to Sydney Harbour for only her four career start. Hopefully the patience of the stable will pay off and she could show her mettle here. As a consistent 4yo, Big Bad Authority can be relied upon to run another honest race and her second in the heat would have brought her along nicely. She has run five nice races and will be ready to put her best foot forward.

Group 1 Lodge fields the Shelby Moondancer stallion Niagara Goer that has won five of his seven starts. The 4yo steps up in class and has a bit to do. Kamikaze Reign is unbeaten on the track and with Frederica Scatenato up with a good draw, he goes for his first world cup win. The daughter of Jitze Avenging, Valasca Twelve, ran a great race when rattling late to beat some top sorts when banking her first cheque in the Breeders Cup long for four year olds. She will strip very fit, and has undeniable claims to add to her cup tally. The strong galloping Barking Assembly mare A-go-go Thalassa heads the swindin attack and steps up to the 2040m after an excellent runner-up cheque in the heat. If she stays, she comes into the focus with Yong Scheuerman in the saddle.

Pre-race comments from:

St Simon Racing – “Should be a very interesting race with chances to a few stables. Captain’s Secret is in good nick, and I hope for a good run.”

Group 1 Lodge – “Honestly think I am making up the numbers. Just want to see where my horse is at at this stage. Gave it a pretty easy lead up and as they say, you have to be in it to win it. Fingers and toes crossed.”

Blackberry Farms – “I think my horse is good enough but may be a little short on jockey to win. Should be fun too watch though.”

Chaotic Neutral – “This one looks like it’ll end up being a very close race. Judging by the pace shown in the heats, Captain’s Secret and Kamikaze Reign will be the ones to beat. However, many runners are able to challenge them including my pony, Valasca Twelve, and swindin’s A-go-go Thalassa who ran much faster than I anticipated in the heats. And lastly, I’m always careful to count out any horse from Burgerfortheboyz.”
