The 2yo Long Breeder Cup

“Take A Deep Breath”

When you dealing with 2yo’s at this very early stage in there career, going long distances can be exhausting. We have a bunch of 2yo’s who will have to bounce back quickly from heats to finals and hope to have something left in the tank. Some of the top stables who have cool hands will be tough to beat. When you have been there and done that you kind of know what it’s going to take to get across that finish line and into the winner circle. Seahorse Racing has two horses in the race Coming Breaks Luke, and Cove Lillie, both finishing 1st and 2nd in their respective heats and look for the legendary stable to be right in the mix again. Ezulwini managed and ran by Dolfie will have Queen Of Pubs, firing on all cylinders on Saturday. Keep you eye on Smart Big, and Bullet Proof, two horses who did not run as well as they liked in heats but are very capable of reversing their fortunes.

1. Queen Of Pubs

2yo colt from Ezulwini, Career earnings: $70,000
Overall rating: Adequate(36) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “I’m obviously extremely pleased with the way Queen of Pubs dominated in the heat. He blew the field away in the last quarter, which gives me reason to hope. But Seahorse’s colt Coming Breaks Luke was pretty damn good in the other heat and there are plenty of strong runners in the field, so it should be a very interesting race.”

2. Fanny Chmelar

2yo filly from Windy Hill, Career earnings: $35,000
Overall rating: Moderate(33) – Needs space

Stable comments: – “This my first Breeders Cup entry for quite some time. My breeding/training ability is pretty poor and my entry will be one the lowest rated in the race. To make matters worse, my Needs Space filly is unlikely to find the space she needs. I’ll be putting my money on the proven breeder’s entries.”

3. Canus Info

2yo filly from Shimtag, Career earnings: $36,884
Overall rating: Moderate(34) – Stalker

Stable comments: – “Just going to enjoy the run out. Some very strong runners, if they fall over, who knows???”

4. Smart Big

2yo colt from light weight, Career earnings: $0
Overall rating: Acceptable(40) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “This horse was a top 10 foetal and the best horse I’ve ever breed. I was disappointed with his run in the heats. I’m expecting a much improved run in the final, and it would be a dream come true to win a breeders cup final. Its going to be a hard race with a number of horses that can win, hopefully Smart Big gets a bit of luck and shows his best on the day.”

5. Sort Of Square

2yo filly from Get Square Lodge, Career earnings: $35,000
Overall rating: Adequate(36) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “Sort Of Square is not completely out of it. Although his time was a little ordinary in the heats I expect him to fire right up for the final. Watch out for Bullet Proof, he will improve.”

6. Cove Lillie

2yo colt from Seahorse Racing, Career earnings: $34,000
Overall rating: Acceptable(41) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “The qualification race went really well for both Coming Breaks Luke and Cove Lillie, taking 1st and 2nd spot in that same race, so based on that I have high hopes for a good result in the final. Race conditions will be different for the final though, and for most horses race instructions will as well, but here at Seahorse Racing we will be doing our best to get a top-3 result. Those are our expectations. After some really tough training sessions both horses look strong. XP is lacking but I am sure they’ll find their way around the track anyway.”

7. Coming Breaks Luke

2yo colt from Seahorse Racing, Career earnings: $68,000
Overall rating: Acceptable(41)

Stable comments: – “Read comments on Cove Lillie

8. Bullet Proof

2yo filly from JEDIMIND, Career earnings: $17,000
Overall rating: Acceptable(41) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “Winning a 2yo race is all about having the right instructions. I experimented first round, but in the final I hope to have the right instructions. The race itself looks to be a tough one with the weather.”

9. Ketchum Shoe Fat

2yo colt from Wild Hawk Racing, Career earnings: $0
Overall rating: Adequate(35) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “

10. Attitude Coltyn

2yo colt from Royal Velvet Stables, Career earnings: $68,000
Overall rating: Adequate(35) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “

11. Pomp And Pageantry

2yo filly from Windmill Racing, Career earnings: $0
Overall rating: Adequate(37)

Stable comments: – “Pomp And Pageantry has been bred specifically for a career at long distances. Both dam and sire were high rated with good genetics who won class 1 long league events at GRAN and between them dominated the Run In The Sun local cup in recent seasons. This filly was a 4 rated foetal but is developing nicely and has shown promise on the training track. There’s no way she can be realistically fancied at this level, especially having run in the Sunday heat and missed vetting, but one never can tell with racing and it’ll be good to see where she stands so she runs on Saturday. She may run in a couple of apprentice league races at London further down the line but really I’m looking at her a future in league races and as a broodmare.”
