For believers of signs and wonders, the season 34 edition of The Lowe Guineas could come down to two runners;

Last weekend we saw a 3 year old named Achilles win the Australian Spring Guineas in style and this weekend his 4 year old namesake will take up her position from gate 10 in the Lowe Guineas. A few minutes later, we saw a talented Mudlark beat a quality sprint field on good ground in the Amethyst Trophy and this weekend we find two Mudlarks ready to challenge in the Lowe Guineas. (On good ground)

Can history repeat itself this weekend? You decide as we look closer at the form to find a winner in this competitive field.

Kingston Eclipse is an ultra consistent runner from one of the best age group trainers in the game. Having won 6 of his 7 starts to date, it is difficult to ignore his chances but clearly the good ground will be against him – Expect a big run from this one.

Flying Zamboucca from the flying spurs stable is difficult to assess. The young Damascus stallion is lacking any sort of consistent form and may be a little short on experience. Having said that, he ran an excellent 2nd in last weekend’s heat and if his trainer has him worked out, he could be right there at the business end.

Tiny’s Finito a smart looking mare from recent world cup maiden winner Pugstable, has improved in recent runs – if her jockey gets his timing right this stalker could breeze past all of them to surprise – outside chance.

Shih Lakers, a lightly raced stallion from NZ thorobreds is an interesting one – winning 3 of his 4 starts to date including last weeks heat run illustrates that he could be something special, add to that some decent experience over medium distance and Shih Lakers becomes a very real challenger in the field.

Ginny Thunder was average in last week’s heat and early signs are that this mare will not be 100% fit for the race, suggesting that she wasn’t holding back in the heat – could be a surprise package on the day but prefer others.

Achilles, the winner of last season’s 3Yo Middle Breeder cup hails from New Scotland Yard, a winner of 14 World Cups to date. Owner Oz5680 certainly knows how to prepare them for the finals and this mare ran a solid 3rd in the heats, looking to have a little in reserve. Probably the favorite to win this race and with good reason.

Giggidy Troubles‘ overall form does not inspire much confidence in this race, however, after a decent 3rd in the heats this Early Sprinter will relish the drier ground this week – place chance.

Cutlass Supreme from Gray Dog Stables is another lightly raced horse which is difficult to assess. His trainer has done an excellent job to date and again, if the jockey gets his timing right, this stalker could surprise us all.

All in all, this is a pretty difficult race to call.
With the going being good, the mudlarks will be disadvantaged which should bring a few others runners into play – My pick for the race is Achilles to win it with Shih LakersFlying Zamboucca and Tiny’s Finito fighting it out for the minor money.
