Throughout history, Eight has been a number of great importance and significance. Can your horse add to the mysticism?

Eight. The number of furlongs in a mile.

8 is the atomic number of life-giving Oxygen. 8 planets in the Solar System (sorry, Pluto – you’re a dwarf planet now apparently). ‘Eight’ in Chinese is considered lucky because it sounds like the word for ‘Wealth’. 8 is also considered prosperous in Japanese culture. And talking of prosperity, of course ‘pieces of eight’! 8 is key to music – octaves. And in computing 8 bits to a byte.

1. Haylee Princess, 6yo mare from woodchuckers, Career earnings: $2,527,612
Overall rating: Tremendous(70) – Breakaway, Jockey: Marylou Gussow

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:40 (1:41.542)

Haylee Princess, a 6yo bay mare out of the Woodchucker’s Stable ran 3rd in the G8 this past weekend. Probably not her best distance the long, but owner Woodchucker is not afraid to be bold and risky in challenging himself and his opponents. One thing we can’t take for granted is this stable has won 15 world cups to his credit, and he didn’t win them all without taking a risk. A win in the G8 would be another feather in his cap.

2. Closing Zenobia, 6yo mare from Manor Park Stud, Career earnings: $2,774,733
Overall rating: Tremendous(74) – Natural champion, Jockey: Kory Bulwinkle

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:30 (1:40.140)

We all have heard that gatorade song, like manor, if I can be like manor, be like manor. Well it might not quite go like that, but if there was a TK gatorade song it might sound similar to that. The winningest cup stable sends out his 6yo grey mare and 3 time world cup winner Closing Zenobia, in trying to capture her 4th piece of hardware and the owners 80 something world trophy.

3. Seascape Scientist, 6yo mare from Desert Wind Stables, Career earnings: $2,489,711
Overall rating: Marvelous(76) – Fast finisher, Jockey: Donnette Filonuk

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:30 (1:38.947)

In this racing corner representing the Namibia flag and wearing the silk colors of owner Rhed of Desert Wind Stable, we have 6yo bay mare and 2 time world cup champion Seascape Scientist. This fast finisher mare is no stranger to her competition beating Closing Zenobia in the SYT and The Lowe Cup. Owner Rhed got this mare looking real sharp of late and look like the one to beat.

4. Homicide, 6yo stallion from zephyr racing stable, Career earnings: $1,249,894
Overall rating: Excellent(62) – Unstyled, Jockey: Kelsey Sereno

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:30 (1:40.909)

Homicide enters the Golden 8 as the lowest overall rating (62). Facing some powerful heavyweights is asking a lot from this 6yo chestnut stallion. With the name Homicide, he may find out pretty early what a murder really feels like.

5. Barking Assembly, 6yo stallion from swindin, Career earnings: $1,466,800
Overall rating: Grand(65) – Natural champion, Jockey: Ula Ramal

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:40 (1:41.542)

After finishing 4th in the heat, Barking Assembly out of the swindin stable, get to stretch out his legs a bit. With a 10XP in long and a 16XP in epic, he seem like the further he go the better he likes it. With the distance being at 1,888m, seem like the bay stallion motor will just began warming up.

6. Nomuch Horntail, 6yo mare from ghanainternational, Career earnings: $2,714,568
Overall rating: Tremendous(73) – Fast finisher, Jockey: Chang Laseter

Last Race: Golden 8 Medium (1688m) at River Nile Delta on 19-Dec-15 12:40 (1:39.390)

Hailed out of the ghanainternational stable, Nomuch Horntail is a horse to not lose sight of. His owner has won world cups in the past and has a proven track record of making a lot of noise on the big stages. This 6yo mare with a fast finisher style if placed in the right position could surprise the top challengers if they fall asleep and don’t look back in there rear view mirrors.

Pinning my hopes on Seascape this weekend. Always hard when racing against Closing Zenobia and Horntail but having pulled out of the Platinum Plate due to weather conditions hoping fitness might give her the edge. History suggests it is in Seascape’s favour but would be foolish to underestimate the competition.

    Nomuch Horntail
I’ve watched that mare in hoofs the last few weeks and have been impressed nearly every time. A high quality mare + 20×14 xp. That’s who I’m betting on. Despite the fact that (2) World Cup King Manor & (3) Captain Titanic are in attendance.
