The Amethyst Trophy – 15th July 2017

Amethyst Trophy

Flying Spurs saddles Flying Zverev, the seemingly progressive C’est Coupez colt who popped up after a good debut for the stable and looks like a horse going places, if he repeats that run he must have a huge shout. Village Idiot carries the dominant DR Stables flag and this son of Willo The Wisp is bound to be stronger after his heat run when fifth behind Flying Zverev.

Hercules Starz is a nice colt and has done very little wrong. He has solid form and will come on from the heat run. We are expecting a big run from him. Addie Over Skipper is a classy and consistent feature performer, who ticks many boxes with his plus draw.

Off a quiet but calculated prep, Wrecking Ball could be the joker in the pack. Dun Galifoa Opera is very effective over the course and distance and with improved fitness can be expected to up his game.

Young Bull has won his last five races, fitness is an issue, but he could hang on for the first prize if things pan out for him in the race. Unexpected Ice is a quality four year old and he ran an eye-catching second behind Pharoah Hanover at his last start.

Free Market has excellent form , has shown plenty of toe, perhaps the trainer has a tearaway plan for her.

Pre-race comments from:

DR Stables – “Village Idiot is coming off an injury but that shouldn’t hinder his performance in the final. He should be kicking in late and will try to catch the leaders at the wire. Top 5 is possible.”

Shadow Racing – “Free Market has been running well even in defeat and has been aimed at races for his age all his life. This is the biggest test so far and we hope the ground will be in his favour. He is tall by our breeding standards and so not your typical sprinter in size. The form of his heat means he might have a chance of finishing in the top half of the field in the final but it might all depend on which horse recovers health best between now and Saturday. Good luck to everybody.”

woodchuckers – “Hercules had a good heat run and Wesche handled him well the 1200m by rights should suit him better but in cup finals not all goes to plan. The track will be good and that makes Flying Zverev and Addie Over Skipper the ones to beat I think.”

Rawhide – “Expecting another place for Unexpected Ice – but a win seems unlikely…”

ghanainternational – “This years Amethyst is an open affair, and will be won by the best horse on the day. The conditions should suit Dun Galifao Opera, a big run is expected.”

veyron – “I think I have a chance because I didn’t gave my best shot before at Amethyst.”

junior’s farms – “Wow! Wrecking Ball…..I’m trying to say something positive about him.Let’s see…. He’s a very handsome horse. Is this a race for good-looks? He might have a chance. My guess on how he’ll do in the final…. I have no clue, but as the tipsters say sometimes, “Might surprise.” In his heat, his race was a disaster. I don’t believe my jockey even had his feet in the irons, had one leg crossed over the other, and appeared to be smoking something that wasn’t a cigarette. I think Wrecking Balls tail crossed the finish line before his nose. Another words, his race was a wreck. But hey, he’s in good shape and didn’t get injured, and I love the way he’s been training, so I’ll be very interested in how he performs this time. I used to have a stable logo showing 3 horses riding on the backs of jockeys. I hope Saturday’s race is not similar…… Who do I like? There are really 5 -7 contenders if you ask me…..Say what? Oh,you’re not asking….I see……..
Let me say good luck to all the entrants!”

flying spurs – “Will be great to have a runner fit to run let alone a contender, Flying Zverev ran a fine heat and I hope he can last the journey in the final. Quite a few chances any of the horses that won heats or placed in the mix the worry maybe Addie Over Skipper or Hercules Starz both have been in good form.”

Winning Post Farm – “Young Bull comes into the Amethyst Final in the form of his career but this race is full of quality. After a busy 2yo campaign which saw him land a 2yo regional in his final start he was given an easier season as a 3yo. He still picked up a regional win at the end of it and started his 4yo season with a win in the Sunday Heat.
I think he might sneak a top five finish if he brings his best form to the party but it should be a very close race.”
