The Australian Cup – 27th May 2017

Australian Cup

A disappointingly small field will face the starter for the second leg of the Triple Crown Series at Sydney Harbour Racecourse on Saturday.

New Scotland Yard will be rubbing their hands in glee as Absolute Zero takes his next step to glory. The race looks to be tailormade for the Zorino mare who trotted up in the first leg over similar distance last month. Carrying no penalty for that victory, Eugene Kohlmeyer will be given a similar opportunity to ride a confident waiting race, in a race where pace – or a lack of it – could well play a role.

Troublemaker’s brings the Maddi Prime Gold stallion Beep Beep to the track. He looked to have improved smartly at his last outing, so could be one for the minor upset notebook.

We are going in a big way for ghanainternational’s smart Secret Phantom mare Jaguar, who was in a sweet vein of form, when producing a rare below par showing at her last cup attempt. Her earlier form and reputation suggests she could make amends here.

Addictive Racing saddles Addie Over Angel, who got her career off to a great start last Saturday in the heat, when running a good third. This black mare could be in the mix if things go her way.

With Shanta Trautman taking over the reins, Kozma will be a definite threat to the other runners in the race, and we expect him to finish well.

Pre-race comments from:

New Scotland Yard – “Ran better than expected in the heats, I was aiming to just qualify with fuel in the tank to make the final in decent shape. Not sure the weather will be wet enough to win but we’ll try.”

ghanainternational – “Jaguar is in fine fettle and a big run is expected.”

Addictive Racing – “A disappointing run in the heat and a lot of improvement needed if any chance. The jock has been disappointing for me so far and I don’t think he is up to it.”

RCS Locos – “Absolute Zero is the standout runner here and expected to win, although Jaguar will give him a run for his money. I don’t think Kozma can win but these races always seem to throw a surprise…..I hope.”
