The Australian Spring Guineas – 15th April 2017

Australian Spring Guineas

Roly Poly

Racing off an overall rating of around 50, Bigger Rolly is one of the highest rated gallopers in the race and looks nicely in. He was backed to win his debut, which he duly did in impressive style. He followed up with a similar demolition job in the heat at his very next start last Saturday, on THREE legs.

Angel’s Flight’s yard is in prime form and Simply The Best must go into calculations. All eyes will be on him when he takes on his opponents here today. He certainly looks to have the ability to match his catchy name. He looks ready and fit to run a massive race and to try and turn the tables around with Bigger Rolly, after the loss in the Champagne Stakes.

While it could be argued that it was her first run, Captain’s Squeeza needs to show more before we consider her for inclusion. Speed Breed’s runner Tina Belcher is consistency personified and she ran another gutsy race when third in the heat on Saturday.

Big Bad Navigator was runner-up behind Simply The Best in the one heat and is threatening to win a BIG one. The son of Tajsh Trooper, Ursa Point Gramsci showed good pace first time out and could hang on for minor place money. Surtees Poove is a three time winner, who ran well when second behind the highly regarded Bigger Rolly last time.

Stable comments: -“Right now in the stable we are playing the Rocky theme song to get us pumped up to bounce back after the lost in the Champagne. It’s the eye of the tiger, It’s the thrill of the fight, Rising up to the challenge of our rival, And the last known survivor, Stalks his prey in the night, And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger.”

Overall rating: Adequate(39) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 6th Jan 2017, bred by Speed Breed

Stable comments: -“It will be a slow or heavy track which will favour the ML’s, but never rule out the other top horses. Tina Belcher will be pleased with a top 5 finish, but she’s looking to have an even more special day.”

5. Big Bad Navigator

3yo filly from Burgersfortheboyz, Career earnings: $311,200
Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 6th Jan 2017, bred by Manor Park Stud
Lineage:By Smoke On The Water out of Buoy Levi

Stable comments: -“The 3yo guineas will purely be a muddies race , and there are quite a few mudlarks in the race with their share of credentials. Bigger Rolly won the Champagne in a quagmire and will be out to maintain his unbeaten record. Big Bad Navigator is jumping out of her skin and ready to run a bold race. Bring your umbrella along, its going to be a splash and dash in the soggy wet.”

6. Ursa Point Gramsci

3yo colt from ARJEE FARMS, Career earnings: $105,000
Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Needs space
Born:Fri 6th Jan 2017, bred by Sootie
Lineage:By Tajsh Trooper out of Fishjob

Stable comments: -“Actually it is a very interesting cup with both short and the final leg being medium. Its quite a task to have a horse to excel at both the distance. As far as my horses chance is concerned I have my reservations, as he is a horse which I just purchased last season to introduce new blood and he is top 7 enabled with a very good DNA. He is basically I believe is a horse which is fit for medium to long but he was already having some XP in Sprint and Short. So I will train him accordingly. This Cup race with a Short distance in the first leg was a nice try out of his abilities. Though he is not having XP in Medium I want to see his natural race, as this is the distance I will train him in. I wish all the others horses Happy Racing and Best Wishes.”
