The Amethyst Trophy – 15th April 2017

Amethyst Trophy

I Feel The Need… The Need For Speed

The consistent Addie Tiffin is from the Sootie stable and will strip very fit after a good run over slow ground and over 150m shorter at the same venue last Saturday. Allison Racing’s lightly raced and exciting Zig And Zag mare Allstar takes her second plunge into deep waters after a very good third to Addie Over Ped in the heat last time. She looks to have plenty of scope to build on her current rating.

The woodchucker trained Canistarz returns from an unsuccessful tilt at the Ascot Vale. He has lost some of his 2yo sparkle, and has since changed stables. He cannot be discounted with the new pilot Maurice Dabadie on top. Bristol Turks’s Sweet Child O’Mine is another that has gone off the boil, and looks hard pressed to up her game.

Vettori God’s has run a few ordinary races over unfavorable ground and could improve dramatically here. Dante’s Spectre ran an excellent race in the heat, and with further improvement must be a serious contender here. The beautifully bred Addie Over Ped, a son of Addie Over Dan, looks ready to register his first world cup win.

RCS Locos has been in fine form and he saddles Mons Meg here. He enjoys running at them late off a decent gallop and is very effective over the track and trip. Sires Produce winner from two seasons ago Ava Addams, has changed stables, the talented four-time winning speedster is quite quirky and it will be interesting to see how he takes to the new challenge.

Stable comments: -“Canistarz form does not read too well I have to admit. He not seen many good tracks and the Amethyst final look likely dead so only looking for a improved run. It’s a even field anything can win this season.”

Stable comments: -“Been looking forward to this cup since finishing 2nd in the Ascot Vale last season. Ped is in excellent shape and ran a great heat with plenty more to give. Starting a bit wider than I would of liked due to forgetting about the invites going out but can overcome that. Even field OR wise but on dead I will be disappointed if Ped doesn’t come away with a win.”
