The Grand Prix de Paris

Carry On Teacher

We may be entering the final weeks of season 37, but there’s still some top-notch racing left to be run! This Saturday, London Bridge will hold five cup races, including the Grand Prix de Paris, an epic race for three year olds.

The race itself has drawn up an intriguing field full of up-and-coming young runners, and it would be no surprise to see a few of these horses achieve major success down the road. Let’s take a look at the comments from the stables!

1. Raspberry Ripple

3yo filly from Sootie, Career earnings: $185,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Natural champion
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Seahorse Racing
Lineage:By Dancin out of Genio
Recent form:12,4,4,4

Stable comments: – “Well as it looks it’s touch and go as I’ve changed the jockey from the bad heat run. I hope this combination can do better and poor old Ripple can shine and hopefully bag a trophy but there’s a few which could stop that from happening (fingers crossed they don’t lol).”

2. New Terrain

3yo colt from Woogle Wood, Career earnings: $1,913,200
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Natural champion
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Woogle Wood
Lineage:By Chippy European out of Snow Brigade
Recent form:1,1,1,1,1

Stable comments: – “I’m hopeful(ish) that New Terrain will run a big race. The step up to epic (from the heat) plus the good ground should suit; his stride/weight are in line with his Grand Prix Stakes win; and his regular partner Ethyl Evertz is up top. Though you never quite know with lightly-raced young epic horses at this stage of their developing careers. Fitness will of course be key for all runners. I’ve a healthy respect for a lot of the opposition – Covenant Woman loves to bob along, Raspberry Ripple has sweet potential, and I wouldn’t sniff at Powder’s chances.”

3. Forest Willow

3yo filly from Forest stables, Career earnings: $672,945
Overall rating: Acceptable(40) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 8th Jul 2016, bred by Fourmyle Stables
Lineage:By Double Shot out of Fishes Athlete
Recent form:1,1,2,2,4

Stable comments: – “I entered the cup as a little fun between seasons. I have only just completed my first full Season. Willow was one of the first horses I purchased as a 2yo. She finished 4th out of a field of 5 on Sunday and qualified so I am not thinking she is going to win. She was outclassed on the day although I thought she ran well. I am hoping to just finish well with no expectations to win top 5 would be a miraculous result but top 15 more realistic.”

4. Covenant Woman

3yo filly from trouble racing, Career earnings: $326,200
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by trouble racing
Recent form:1,5,2

Stable comments: – “The stable didn’t put the effort training this one early in it’s career but the filly showed some real staying ability in a regional and here we are. Should go close.”

5. Wings Mild

3yo filly from Cape Hall, Career earnings: $115,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(53)
Born:Fri 8th Jul 2016, bred by Templegreen
Lineage:By Lucas Sessa out of Super Sized Girl
Recent form:7,2

6. X-run Dapple Larst

3yo colt from Green Islands, Career earnings: $656,670
Overall rating: Acceptable(40) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Bristol Turks
Lineage:By Seek And Destroy out of Silence
Recent form:1,3,4,1,1

Stable comments: – “Being a relatively new entrant to this level of racing, I consider myself to be a slowly progressing- new-up and coming trainer…. hence my chance of competing competitively in this quality of field at this stage would be that of an outsiders chance. I have entered this series simply to gain experience for the horses future engagements. Therefore my runner ‘X-Run Dapple Larst‘ could be described as a work in progress who should be running on at the finish but not expected to land a first three spot unfortunately. The race appears to be quite even with the exception of the obvious unbeaten New Terrain from WoogleWood Stable…although its not a lay down Mizzaire. Good luck to all.”

7. Queen Of Pubs

3yo colt from Ezulwini, Career earnings: $747,111
Overall rating: Satisfactory(48) – Natural champion
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Ezulwini
Recent form:1,2,3,1,2

Stable comments: – “Queen of Pubs under-performed in the heats, but I didn’t have the right jockey on board. I’m hoping for a better run in the final, although New Terrain will take some beating.”

8. Powder

3yo filly from YellonkY, Career earnings: $1,232,900
Overall rating: Adequate(39) – Unpredictable
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by YellonkY
Lineage:By Pocus Hop out of Kundalini
Recent form:5,3,9,3,1

Stable comments: – “I was really impressed with her performance in semifinal, so I have some hopes about final race. of course with much lower OR than many rivals she’s not going to be a favorite, but I hope we can make a surprise once again.”

9. Panama Red

3yo filly from cassie, Career earnings: $371,600
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47) – Competitive
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by cassie
Lineage:By Gallahadion out of Decidedly
Recent form:2,2,3,8,3

Stable comments: – “As usual Panama Red will be there having a crack at a world trophy and this time may even sneak a place. Has a great top end speed but will need it. She has some great horses to pass.”

10. Kakita Matabei

3yo colt from Pegasus, Career earnings: $57,500
Overall rating: Reasonable(51) – Needs space
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Pegasus
Lineage:By Kakita Rensei out of Doji Yasuyo
Recent form:6,5

Stable comments: – “Our horse is well trained and one of the best for his age. We believe we can compete and be in top 3 but anything can happen, many excellent stables in that race. Sootie is the favorite, he knows how to take advantage of young horses and bring trophy home!”

11. Sexy Kodak Stay

3yo filly from Back in black, Career earnings: $733,846
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Early sprinter
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by YellonkY
