The Great Sphinx Cup

Yes Sir I Can Boogie

A representative high class field lines up in today’s Great Sphinx Cup.

Ersins is the man of the moment, and he goes for a fourth world cup this season. He certainly looks to have the firepower to achieve his goal. His attack is headed by double world cup winner Rollin In The Deep. Well drawn and with Bree Vascones up again, she must go very close to a top cheque. Angel’s Flight and Virgil Vaulet are a lethal combination on the big days and there will be no pressure when the Seahorse Racing bred Solid As A Rock goes to post. The son of Dancin was placed at his first run for the new stable over 1350m and will enjoy the extra.

The Flying Spurs-bred filly Silverflash Flyer has shown top-class speed in achieving her two wins from eight starts and showed nice pace again when only a few lengths off Heracles in the heat at the same venue last Saturday. Shari Mealor rides the son of Godzilla My Own Business for the second time, which may be the tonic to boost his confidence and get him into the winner’s enclosure.

Lazarus is loaded with ability, and has come out sweetly in his last run. He must go close to winning. Oceanus won a gutsy race on Sunday, but could have fitness issues come race day.

Blood Runs Cold hails from the Allison racing stable, she looks way above average and should not be discounted. The draw comes into play, but if there is a trainer to pull a rabbit out of the hat – or cat out of the hat, if you prefer – then it is BODRUMLUCK with his runner Heracles. He should go close, if he can overcome the wide draw.

3yo filly from Bristol Turks, Career earnings: $1,697,677
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Bristol Turks
Recent form:1,4,1,1,2

Stable comments: – “I’m very happy with the way Rollin has been coming along. She’s still a work in progress but very exciting prospect. Rollin will be paired with Bree Vascones for the final. It was a winning combination in the Breeders 5 weeks ago so I’m hoping for a similar performance. But the field looks very competitive with a number of horses capable of a win so anything can happen.”

2. Solid As A Rock

3yo colt from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $537,311
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Seahorse Racing
Lineage:By Dancin out of Of Silver Pistols
Recent form:6,2,3,2

Stable comments: – “He who has the gold makes the rules” it’s showtime. SAAR is starting to round into form at the right time and like an old wise man once said “A jug fills drop by drop.”  Good luck to all the participants!

3. Silverflash Flyer

3yo filly from flying spurs, Career earnings: $940,228
Overall rating: Satisfactory(49) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by flying spurs
Lineage:By Secret Phantom out of Stardust Flyer
Recent form:2,4,1,5,4

Stable comments: – “Silverflash is a lovely filly, I am yet to pair her with the right jockey. This final is another chance to hopefully see progress so top 5 would be a good effort. Who can win toss a coin any number could win it.”

4. My Own Business

3yo colt from Troublemaker’s, Career earnings: $605,755
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Troublemaker’s
Lineage:By Godzilla out of Cat Jar Tungsten
Recent form:3,4,2,4,3

Stable comments: – “We are happy with that heat run, we had some problems that the jockey was able to correct early, so, with a bit of luck we should repeat and maybe improve that last run. Once again Rollin In The Deep is the favorite. Good luck to everyone.”

5. Lazarus

3yo colt from Brigadoon, Career earnings: $1,152,100
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Bristol Turks
Recent form:2,3,1,2,1

Stable comments: – “Ok the race should be soft come race day, so with this in mind I like ‘Rollin In The Deep‘ from the nice draw and outsider ‘Heracles‘ to be the hardest to best with ‘Lazarus‘ looking the goods with a solid prep and nice heat win. I also like the heat run from ‘Solid As A Rock‘ which maybe the hardest challenger flashing home late, looks like a ripper race on paper, good luck to all finalists.”

6. Oceanus

3yo colt from Master Blaster, Career earnings: $386,500
Overall rating: Satisfactory(48) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Brigadoon
Recent form:2,6,1,1

Stable comments: – “My first try in this sort of event. My runner may not be fit for race and then might have to scratch. We will see later in week, I like the number 1 if track gets worse. Too early and more horses to enter and my main worry is distance might be too much. Like I said way too early and will make up my mind Wednesday.”

7. Daisy Duke

3yo filly from djs stable, Career earnings: $288,379
Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Needs space
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Troublemaker’s
Lineage:By Godzilla out of Scorchlight
Recent form:8,10,11,5,5

Stable comments: – “Daisy Duke will probably be finishing near the back of the field. Would be pleased if I don’t finish last. Will be having a change of jockey but would need to improve greatly to be any sort of chance.”

8. Martha Jones

3yo filly from Speed Breed, Career earnings: $441,552
Overall rating: Acceptable(43) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Speed Breed
Lineage:By Zig And Zag out of Brienne Of Tarth
Recent form:8,11,1,17,5

Stable comments: – “Martha Jones is a long shot mudlark. She’s just hoping to finish in the top 5 although that would be impressive considering the other mudlark’s in the field. Of course, any horse can win?”

9. Blood Runs Cold

3yo filly from Allison Racing, Career earnings: $156,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(51) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 22nd Jul 2016, bred by Troublemaker’s
Lineage:By Godzilla out of Noble Blood
Recent form:9,4,8,3

Stable comments: – “I will be happy if I can place top 5, my filly isn’t really ready, but I thought I would throw her in the deep end anyway. It is a close field, we all pretty much have the same xp, so it will come down to stat balance and race instructions.”

10. Shimmaree Revenge

3yo colt from countrry boy, Career earnings: $506,320
Overall rating: Acceptable(40) – Needs space
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by countrry boy

Recent form:1,6,5,2,6

Stable comments: – “

11. Heracles

3yo colt from BODRUMLUCK, Career earnings: $556,700
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 22nd Jul 2016, bred by Master Blaster
Lineage:By Lucky Colours out of Mnemosyne
Recent form:5,4,5,1,1

Stable comments: – “The distance and the going is most suitable for my Heracles, Yes. The track and the draw are the negatives. I have fairly recently acquired this fine colt therefore I am not yet so sure of its capabilities, apart from which Rolling In The Deep and Lazarus looks equal favorites to beat. We will be happy to be in 3rd place.”

12. Beaver Thade

3yo filly from RUMP STEAK RACING, Career earnings: $230,000
Overall rating: Satisfactory(45) – Mud-lark

14. Red Babyface

3yo filly from The Judda Yard, Career earnings: $256,113
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47)
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by JEDIMIND
Lineage:By Kushiel out of Harada Reverb

15. Rave On

3yo colt from Pugstable, Career earnings: $371,000
Overall rating: Satisfactory(48) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Jul 2016, bred by Lost In The Fog
Lineage:By Our Gary out of Durango Zod
Recent form:2,7,5,1,4

Stable comments: – “This is a very open race. The first six horses are all muddies and they are very quick and will be hard to beat. What a race. There are 10 mud-larks entered so far and they will dominate this race on the slow track so I will back them all. I will be happy to run and finish in the top 10. I am tipping the muddies to run 1 to 10. They have such a big advantage in these conditions. 1 to 6 each way and 1 to 6 boxed. Good luck to every one in the final.”
