The 4yo Long Breeder Cup – 12th November 2016 – Great Himalayan Racecourse

The 4yo Long Breeder Cup

Good Grief – It’s Tough Today

Lump Of Ice has a point to prove when he lines up in the 4 year old Long Breeder Cup over 2200m at Great Himalayan Racecourse on Saturday, a race that has attracted some cracking horses. He finished strongly in the heat over slow ground and might be suited by the extra two furlongs. He ran a very good third behind Madam Secretary in The So You Think last season over dead ground and 2050 meters.

Nyquist has earned a cheque in last four starts, and was victorious in The Lowe Guineas over 1800m three weeks ago. The son of Blitzen is obviously top class but he may be hard pressed here, as he has a lot to do at the ratings. Big Bad Mack Truck is a very smart sort. He might rise to the occasion here, I would expect him to be in the top three.

Bloodborne has talent and she can’t be written off from a good draw. The 4 year old mare It Lemmy proved in The So You Think she has it in her to be competitive in a race like this. Sepia, Absolutely Square and Andre The Giant all have scope for improvement.

1. Lump Of Ice

4yo stallion from Sootie, Career earnings: $2,001,111
Overall rating: Admirable(56) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 8th Apr 2016, bred by Sootie
Lineage:By Lara Blitzen out of Screenscraper
Recent form:4,3,4,3,1

Trainer comments: – “Hoping the weather can hold and keep it slow but I don’t think it will so it looks like it’s fair game to a lot of stables/horses which could take this one.”

2. Nyquist

4yo stallion from DR Stables, Career earnings: $2,642,144
Overall rating: Satisfactory(48) – Mud-lark
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by DR Stables
Lineage:By Blitzen out of Weer Flawless
Recent form:8,2,1,1,1

Trainer comments: – “Nyquist is in good form going into the final winning his last 3 races. His time was the fastest of the heats, but that was on a slow track. The track will probably turn dead for the final, so Nyquist will have to run his best to win. I think this race is wide open with a few horses having a chance to win. Top 3 is possible.”

3. Big Bad Mack Truck

4yo stallion from Burgersfortheboyz, Career earnings: $956,200
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by Burgersfortheboyz
Lineage:By Mack Daddy out of Big Bad Dominatrix
Recent form:2,3,2,5,3

Trainer comments: – “All eyes will be on the weather Gods for the Breeders Long. The track will definitely be on the dead side on the Friday however on race day Saturday there are passing showers forecast which may be the result of the low barometric troph moving across the Asian continent. Should the track stay dead it could signal a return on the grand stage of the podium to one of our stables original idols, namely the Troublemaker stables. Should the track take a last minute turn to slow however, Sootie and DR stables should have a mortgage on the race and unfortunately the Burgers fast finisher colt may end up in more trouble than a gothic teenager out on a stinking summer hot day.”

4. Bloodborne

4yo mare from Troublemaker’s, Career earnings: $400,000
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Natural champion
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by Troublemaker’s
Lineage:By Godzilla out of Cat Jar Tungsten
Recent form:7,2,5,3,4

Trainer comments: – “Bloodborne is a tricky one, we didn’t manage to get the best out of it yet, but we think a top 3 place in this race could be possible. If the ground is slow then Inca or Sootie will be the ones to beat, if dead then Big Bad Mack Truck will destroy us all, is my favorite horse in the race, wish them the best.”

5. It Lemmy

Trainer comments: – “Does seem like a Nyquist benefit, he is a super horse & a credit to DR stables. l expect my girl to be a lot more competitive in the final but not wrapped with the slow ground. Very open for the placegetters with Absolutely Square, Lump of Ice & Big Bad Mack Truck some of the leading contenders. Looking forward to the race & good luck to all.”
