A high quality field of speedsters will line up to do battle in the Up & Coming Sprintstar at Sydney Harbour Racecourse today. Being a sprint race, the 1200m contest is wide open and looks to be the toughest leg of what are expected to be a terrific day of racing.
Trainer Sootie has two runners and the son of Like A Boss, Dodge And Swerve, he needed the run when unplaced behind Copenhagen in the heat on Saturday over 800m and will improve here. His stablemate Bling is one of several fillies in the race and, she is a pacey sort and has been brought along slowly.
The outstanding Hawaii Al sprinter Bahamas is back chasing more silverware on Saturday. Riddley Walker Racing’s six year old looks set to make a good start to the 6yo Triple Crown series. He is a fit-as-a-fiddle talented ball of speed and has proven his ability in age cups. The one to beat. Rafindale has had great success with sprinters and the ultra consistent Dante’s Anger looks every inch a serious racehorse, she will command the utmost respect. Jack Hammer is the highest rated horse in the race, and is set for a big effort.
The unpredictable son of Danger Mouse, Addie Over Greater is a difficult fellow to assess as he ran his heat on Sunday, and his last run in this type of company was three seasons ago. Copenhagen has put her hand up big time when winning the heat on Saturday over 800m. This will naturally be her big test with a strong contingent of visitors out to spoil her party. The Fernbank Park runner Fluffy, is lightly raced and should be well suited to the extra 400m here.
All told, this should be a lovely visual spectacle to enjoy, a fact made so much more pleasant if you’re backing the winner.
