The Australian Cup

Captain On The Up

The dead to soft underfoot conditions added a tricky testing element to the quality 1800m feature.

Addie Over Captain was considered good enough to take on some of these horses as a 2 and 3yo. He looks like a decent sort and capable enough to start delivering on his early promise. Champagne Cup winner Whole Lotta Love is an honest and consistent performer who is always in the mix. Manor Park Stud sends his lightly raced mare Mire Eezee to the track and hopes for the track to stay slow. Bozo The Clown’s wait-and-swoop style today could do the trick in a very competitive race. Blackjack Farms has Royal Flush in the race, who has been thereabouts lately, she could well surprise at her very best. Blitzman is a game and consistent stallion who is worthy of inclusion in trifectas.

It’s a tricky little race.

1. Addie Over Captain

4yo stallion from crowsrock, Career earnings: $845,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Competitive

Stable comments: – “Track condition will play a big part in this race, if it stays slow, its in the bag for Manor Park Stud with the muddie but if goes dead, it’s a pretty open race. Bozo The Clown will go off favorite but can be beaten. Had a good run in the heat with a first time jock. Like my chances in this race.”

2. Whole Lotta Love

4yo mare from Bristol Turks, Career earnings: $1,692,200
Overall rating: Reasonable(54) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Whole Lotta Love ran a good heat and I was a little hopeful for the final but all that changed when I looked at the weather forecast. The track is slow now and it seems it will remain slow or at best on the slow side of dead. I’m not sure how Love will perform if it remains slow, likely to struggle to make top3, especially with a strong looking mudlark from Manor Park in the final. I’ll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed all week for better weather to at least have a chance in this one…”

3. Mire Eezee

4yo mare from Manor Park Stud, Career earnings: $420,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “

4. Bozo The Clown

4yo stallion from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $2,480,962
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Stalker

Stable comments: – “Coming out of the Lowe Guineas we just felt the conditions wasn’t to Bozo liking. Hoping this weekend track go dead and if this the case I like are chances going in. Bozo The Clown ran a nice heat and were hoping we can improve off that performance. Lyman Eighmy will get the assignment to ride once again and seem to bond well his first time out with him.  “

5. Mystro Ryder

4yo stallion from Back in black, Career earnings: $398,974
Overall rating: Satisfactory(49) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “

6. Blitzman

4yo stallion from RCS Locos, Career earnings: $911,250
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Competitive

Stable comments: – “Blitzman will need to improve drastically to have any hope. My prediction ? Mire Eezee, Bozo The Clown and Addie Over Captain first three with Addie pipping it.”

7. Bender Spirited

4yo mare from Great Plains, Career earnings: $581,748
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47)

Stable comments: – “

8. Red Sky At Dusk

4yo mare from Lozzy Stables, Career earnings: $242,900
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Stalker

Stable comments: – “Red Sky At Dusk will take her place in the Australian Cup final but she has no chance whatsoever. She has already been found out badly in age restricted world cups and I expect the same story come next weekend. I am still looking to find the key to her and to work out how good she actually is and sometimes the best way of doing that is by taking on the top opposition.”

9. Royal Flush

4yo stallion from Blackjack Farms, Career earnings: $1,052,591
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Royal Flush is looking to get is revenge on Bozo the Clown and the injury that helped Angel’s Flight win the 3yo BC Medium. Although poor gating and a new slew of contenders could change up the final results this time around. A good field has come together, with a fair number of heavy hitters in the top rankings of the game. This looks to be a who’s who of TK talent. A long medium may just be Royal Flush’s downfall.
