The Up & Coming Sprintstar

Casper The Friendly Ghost

Looking for a favourite’s graveyard? There’s no better than the The Up & Coming Sprintstar, if results from the last years are anything to go by.

The competitiveness of the speed ranks among the 6yo’s makes The Up & Coming Sprintstar one of the highlights of a superb programme. The six-year-old daughter of Speckles –  Ghostmilk – was involved in a thrilling tussle in the Season35 Australian Down Under Sprint, taking the lead halfway through the race, and kept on going resolutely to give her trainer his second world cup win. She meets the same horses again and should go close again. Trainer woodchuckers saddles Apollo Kingz and Voyager Starz – the latter steps into the big league as a largely unknown candidate.. Apollo Kingz has been thereabouts and within spitting distance of a big win. Samart Jester took it very easy in the heats, and trainer RCS Locos has employed the services of ace pilot Wayne Kinker. Captain Morgan was a surprise winner of the Amethyst Trophy two seasons ago, and is definitely better than his last few cup runs. The Troublemaker’s owned stallion Sos Venezuela was a convincing winner of the Golden Slipper and Ascot Vale early on in his career, and looks a massive runner in this field. The champion conditioner must fancy his chances strongly again this time round.

1. Apollo Kingz

6yo stallion from woodchuckers, Career earnings: $4,146,420
Overall rating: Grand(65) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “In good form Apollo Kingz and if he carries on with that heat run will be  on the podium. The obvious main contenders are all cup winners all beaten Apollo Kingz so we have our work cut out to beat Ghostmilk, Captain Morgan and Sos Venezuela, a very strong group.”

2. Voyager Starz

6yo stallion from woodchuckers, Career earnings: $52,500
Overall rating: Grand(66) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “Voyager Starz had it all against him in the heat over the short sprint of 950m. In the heat Voyager Starz gave up 6 at the start as stride and weight was not right, yet ran well given it was his first start. Unsure if he can challenge for a top 3 but certainly can give a better showing over the longer 1200m. No doubt a very good group of muddies here any of them could win on there day.

3. Samart Jester

6yo mare from RCS Locos, Career earnings: $2,458,012
Overall rating: Grand(66) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “Samart Jester has competed well against some of the other finalists so I know if she performs like I know she can then she has a chance. Samart Jester was well beaten by Ghostmilk into 2nd place in the Aussie Clothing Sprint, so for me she is the one to beat.”

4. Captain Morgan

6yo stallion from DR Stables, Career earnings: $3,836,065
Overall rating: Excellent(61) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “Captain Morgan has no real gate speed, so he will have to grind it out. Don’t see him contending for the win, but should be top 5.”

5. Sos Venezuela

6yo stallion from Troublemaker’s, Career earnings: $2,861,459
Overall rating: Grand(67) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “We expect S.O.S Venezuela to improve a lot this time around, the trainer and the jock are confident but we can’t forget the field is top quality, best luck to everyone.”

6. Snowcat Sherlock

6yo stallion from Norfolk Inchance, Career earnings: $2,172,012
Overall rating: Admirable(58) – Early sprinter

Stable comments: – “There was less than a second between the first 8 horses in our heat so I’m really looking forward to this final. I think a top 10 finish will be a successful race for us.”

7. Angelina Flyer

6yo mare from La Academia, Career earnings: $1,856,407
Overall rating: Excellent(60)

Stable comments: – “In a race of 1200 meters, the main candidate is Apollo Kingz. Angelina Flyer has little experience in that distance, even if all goes well could be in the top three.”

8. Ghostmilk

6yo mare from Fernbank Park, Career earnings: $1,786,375
Overall rating: Excellent(64) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “Ghostmilk has the record on the board. Confident going into this one although very competitive field. Everything will need to work right to be there in the finish.”

9. Buzza Bottle

6yo mare from Klaatu Barada Nikto, Career earnings: $635,322
Overall rating: Reasonable(54) – Stalker
