The Golden Eights Cup – 25th June 2016 – River Nile Delta Racecourse

The Golden Eights Cup

Evenly Matched Again

Stable form and race fitness could be key to the outcome of today’s The Golden Eights Cup where eight runners line up on the River Nile Delta Racecourse track over 1888m.

The race is wide open race with chances to all of the runners. A case can be made for many but we are siding with consistency and suggesting that Dante’s Wawa, GS Metin Oktay and Gunsynd may be equal to the task – with chances to the rest.

1. Wishing Well

6yo mare from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $4,232,361
Overall rating: Excellent(61) – Mud-lark

Stable comments: – “Wishing Well won’t have a muddie track this weekend but I’m still confident she can run well and be very competitive. Coming into the race with lesser OR then most of the top runners she had a nice heat win and seem to do well on a dead track. This is the last age group cup in her career, and we might as well give it a shot against the best 6yo long runners out there even though she is not on her favorite surface.”

2. Steele Starz

6yo stallion from woodchuckers, Career earnings: $3,674,544
Overall rating: Grand(68) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “Steele Starz has been battling injury the last season or so and in doubt for the final. Fit he can contend not worried by any runner really if I did would not race cups at all so run my race. Of the other runners Dante’s Wawa is a champ on his best day can win, I have had many a battle with my old mate Rafindale and his horses and a win for Wawa would not surprise, Gunsynd another Steele Starz has raced against gave Steele wind burn last cup when he broke down but quality runner from a top trainer. Off the rest Wishing Well dual cup winner Angel just a top shelf cup stable always in the mix. GS Metin Oktay has OR but has yet to put it together in cups might do this time we will see.

3. Dante’s Wawa

6yo stallion from rafindale, Career earnings: $2,396,635
Overall rating: Tremendous(72) – Stalker

Stable comments: – “

4. Big Bad Headhoncho

6yo stallion from Burgersfortheboyz, Career earnings: $914,800
Overall rating: Grand(67) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Only a small field but there is more quality than a Slovakian Supermodel. The Honcho was not suited to the middle distance heat but getting back to the long distance will be right up the rising 6 year old’s alley. A noted fast finisher he will be storming home with a wet sail. The strength of this field is so solid , the race should provide more twists than a pretzel factory.

5. Gs Metin Oktay

6yo mare from BODRUMLUCK, Career earnings: $3,093,300
Overall rating: Tremendous(71) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “Gs Metin Oktay will be a force to reckon in long distance races for seasons to come. Its always risky to travel 12 hrs to a cup race and therefore lose vet time before and after the race. If my filly is fit enough on the day I personally don’t see any challenge. Although I respect Dante’s Wawa and Steele Starz and their trainers, yet I am sure they must hope we are not fit when we get there.”

6. Gunsynd

6yo stallion from trouble racing, Career earnings: $2,168,589
Overall rating: Tremendous(72) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Roselle Samaroo got it all wrong last start, but with a new rider on board, the horse should improve and a bold showing is expected.

7. Made Of Browser

6yo stallion from Orillas del YI, Career earnings: $1,669,600
Overall rating: Excellent(62)

Stable comments: – “

8. Cruiser Des Bois

6yo stallion from Back in black, Career earnings: $1,018,450
Overall rating: Tremendous(73) – Natural champion
