Winning connections: Jewelled Octagon – ghanainternational – Mamie Granado
Comments from the stable: – “Jewelled Octagon is full of surprise’s, a week 3 home breed foal out of two sprinters, produced a N/C. The aim was to train him as an epic runner, however after winning the Grand Prix I may change him to a long runner.
Being a 2yo race you don’t know what to expect I thought Jewelled had an outside chance of winning. However, there were many stables in the race capable of winning: Angels Flight, Woodchuckers, MolietSurfer and troublemakers to name a few.
The jockey gave the horse a brilliant ride always placed within the first 6 runners, before chasing down Wouda Couda Shouda, taking the lead 200m out and holding on well.
That makes it 100 wins out of 182 to rides for the jockey.
I am very pleased especially as the sire Lambda Provoke never won a W/C, but has produced a world cup winning colt.”

Winning connections: Bayakoa – Angel’s Flight – Chantel Paolello
Comments from the stable: – ” Lot of growing pains with 2yo’s. Didn’t feel that Bayakoa was ready to race her first time on the track during Week 7 prelude. We had four weeks to train her up a bit and round her into better shape.
A 3.1 million dollar purchase bred out of Seahorse Racing barn, the mudlark filly has a nice lineage of champion pedigree in her DNA with ancestors like Starfish, Barracuda, Great Grey Giant, and Little Big Horse, just to name a few. She is definitely following in some giant footsteps but so far she is off to a great start to continue the cup winning tradition. Just happy to get the win today against a nice group of horses and stables.”

Comments from the stable: – “Really happy with the win but thought my race was over pretty much at the start as struggled to activate the style. Will be hoping for more in future as will have trouble keeping a few of these behind in upcoming cups without that early boost.”

Winning connections: Christastarz – woodchuckers – Yoko Saltonstall
Comments from the stable: – “Golden Slipper been a cup I have always tried to win but always seem to run into a horse just too good on the day. But I had a good feeling about Christastarz from the very moment I paired King Spector with Most Awesome Ever. Christastarz has since his arrival not missed a beat, trains well and has had a lovely lead up. I feel the prelude really did him a lot of good.
In slipper final as always a few unknowns 2yo yet to race but high rated and well trained. What I did know was Hareeba a top trainer he had Grey Street I know he has his right to go. Badgerindabathroom had beaten Christastarz in the first prelude and was very impressive. So I needed to be spot on with my colt and as it worked out he had enough to finish strong in the last quarter.
Simply rapt a real highlight to win the slipper finally. ”

Comments from the stable: – “I’m absolutely gobsmacked to have won a top class cup. It’s been over two years since I won a proper cup. I bought the cup for class racing really but thought why not have a go…I’m extremely happy.”

The Track King Open – Rocky Mountain Ridge Racecourse
Winning connections: The Queen’s Affair – Ezulwini – Nilda Lovely
Comments from the stable: – ‘Here’s a secret: This is the first time I have entered a TK Open final. So to win at first go is superb. The Queen’s Affair has really been brilliant in his last two seasons – perhaps thanks to me stumbling unwittingly on winning race instructions. To add to the thrill, this was the second fastest time ever over the distance, just missing out on the world record by a few fractions of a second. That’s a pretty good day all round.”
