The Great Sphinx Cup

Go…You Good Thing!

DR Stables’ outstanding Blitzen filly Angel From Hell takes her next step to equine immortality when she lines up in the $1.8 million Great Sphinx Cup at River Nile Delta Racecourse on Saturday. Fit, in sparkling form and loaded with talent, it is difficult suggesting that anything can stop her march to Triple Crown glory. Angel From Hell won the first two legs of the Triple Crown with a stamp of authority that suggested she can only get better with the benefit of racing experience. A magnificent filly with an electrifying finish, she is the winner of 6 of her 8 starts to date. She looks the banker in all exotics and the pilot on top Dominque Donlin has done nothing wrong, having been aboard on all her 4 world cup wins.

We all know that punters are fickle beasts on the best of days and that it would take less than a minute and a half on Saturday afternoon to take the hero to zero – but the gal that won the first two legs with such authority looks very tough to beat.

Enough has been written about the Angel, so let’s have a look at the other runners.

Angel’s Flight saddles the high-class American Liberty, who has earned her spot in this field. She is the winner of the Sires Produce from last season and on best performances, has the ability. Her unplaced effort last time behind Angel From Hell in the heat on Saturday was not her run, but it was on the short side and she will be more comfortable here over the 1466m – probably her best trip

Wife Doesn’t Play has run two good seconds to date, and would only need to put his heart in it to have a say.

Jackman Flyer was recently purchased by the flying spur stable, and looks to be improving quickly.

Dirtylittlesecret is another entry from DR Stables. She has been very consistent of late, and will make sure that there is plenty pace for a true run race.

Aussie Man Sardean, the son of Ozymandias will naturally strip fitter on Saturday and any improvement can see him run into the place money.

Skifam21’s Purple Reign is one of two maidens in the race and a brave entry given the credentials of the opposition.

Bristol Turk saddles Champagne winner Whole Lotta Love. Jockey Allen Beckham will threw everything bar the kitchen sink at this gallant filly, to try and overturn a string of 2nd places for the stable in world cups.

The race is sponsored by The Alliance.

1. American Liberty

3yo filly from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $723,150
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Needs space

Comments: Angel’s Flight says – “I’m very excited to see us have another horse with the opportunity to win the Triple Crown. Inca have a very great champion in Angel From Hell and if she win on Saturday it will be well deserved and celebrated. American Liberty come into the race fit as a fiddle, now what do that mean? Beat the crap out of me, just hoping to get a nice clean trip and let the chips fall where they may. Happy racing and good luck to everyone!”

2. Wife Doesn’t Play

3yo filly from Troublemaker’s, Career earnings: $351,200
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Competitive

Comments: Troublemaker’s – says “The Wife” looks prepared, stats are balanced and it looks very similar to an old mare I had that won this cup, if I manage to trick the stalkers I think she can bring the trophy home. DR Stables is the one to beat.”

3. Jackman Flyer

3yo colt from flying spurs, Career earnings: $727,200
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Stalker

Comments: flying spurs says – “Jackman Flyer is new only had a few weeks and had IP when I purchased him. Jackman Flyer has good speed but being a stalker he’ll have to be run carefully to run it out. If new jockey Sharell Lage can keep Jackman Flyer close enough early he has a chance. Main competitors are obvious Angel From Hell from DR Stables and sires winner American Liberty but to be honest just to make top 5 will be more than I would of expected 2 weeks ago, so with a little luck top 5.”

4. Angel From Hell

3yo filly from DR Stables, Career earnings: $2,494,844
Overall rating: Admirable(57) – Stalker

Comments: DR Stables says – “The race looks to be wide open. I see six horses that could win this race. Angel From Hell lacks short distance and dead track experience, but has loads of talent. If she can repeat her last race she will be a threat to win.”

5. Dirtylittlesecret

3yo filly from DR Stables, Career earnings: $1,530,310
Overall rating: Satisfactory(49) – Early sprinter

Comments: DR Stables says – “Dirtylittlesecret is one of the two horses that I can’t see winning. The distance is a little too long for her. I see her fading around 1200m. Her race instructions will be changed in hope of lasting the distance and if that helps she may hit top 5 at best.”

6. Aussie Man Sardean

3yo colt from Sardean Lodge, Career earnings: $191,875
Overall rating: Admirable(57) – Mud-lark

Comments: Sardean Lodge says – “He’s a nice healthy and lightly raced stallion. He will get his day but I feel Angel From Hell is this generations champion and incredibly hard to beat. We need it to rain in Egypt, anyone know how to call a plague?”

7. Purple Reign

3yo colt from skifam21, Career earnings: $261,345
Overall rating: Reasonable(50) – Fast finisher

Comments: skifam21 says – “I still seem to struggle from race instructions. I never have gotten it. But it came together this race better then most. I think health well come into question this next race. It looks to be a very tough field with though competitors.”

8. Whole Lotta Love

3yo filly from Bristol Turks, Career earnings: $1,339,400
Overall rating: Reasonable(54) – Fast finisher

Comments: Bristol Turks says – “Well, Whole Lotta Love is a medium runner, and only entering the final to test how she copes. My horse has zero chance to win, zip, nada! Might just snatch 5th if some of the other runners have an off day.”

9. Jennings Izzi

3yo filly from North Star, Career earnings: $75,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(52) – Early sprinter

Comments: North Star says – “I don’t really have a big expectations from this race, it was great that we qualified and all I hope is that we will get a good race.”
