1 | 2 | Bozo The Clown | Angel’s Flight | Clara Colla | 1:36.413 |
2 | 3 | Belle Epoque | Woogle Wood | Reta Derrah | 1:36.474 |
3 | 4 | Addie Over Captain | crowsrock | Willa Kazanowski | 1:36.548 |

5 | 6 | Blitzman | RCS Locos | Wayne Kinker | 1:36.866 |
Saturday will be the 31st running of the Australian Spring Guineas and will we have a Whole Lotta Love for the winner? If that happens the Bristol Turks barn will be all smiles. She is a serious contender with strong form. She won the Champagne stakes end of last season and looks like the one to beat. Whole Lotta Love shows all the ability to go on and win many cups for her trainer.
Pugstable has been breeding quality for a number of seasons, and his runner Brazen Beau who was runner up in the Champagne, won in impressive style in last week’s heat. He looks like a progressive sort and has to be the main danger. Brazen Beau being a competitive, will likely be on pace and use the field to his advantage.
Angel Flight, one of the top age cups trainers in the game, has Bozo The Clown running. He may be a clown by name but that’s as far as it goes. He is in the hands of a serious trainer and I can see this stalker lurking in the shadows ready to pounce, he is one to watch.
Outside of these three, other contenders are Belle Epoque. He has been solid without being super impressive. Superwoogie is a trainer that prepares very well, so I suspect we might see further improvement. He is a good chance to finish in the top 5.
Addie Over Captain, much improved heat run at his 2nd start, and with further improvement to come, could surprise us.
Here are a few comments on the rest of the field
1. Whole Lotta Love |
3yo filly from Bristol Turks, Career earnings: $1,069,400 Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Fast finisher |
2. Bozo The Clown |
3yo colt from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $882,100 Overall rating: Satisfactory(45) – Stalker |
3. Belle Epoque |
3yo filly from Woogle Wood, Career earnings: $250,375 Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Fast finisher |
4. Addie Over Captain |
3yo colt from crowsrock, Career earnings: $105,000 Overall rating: Acceptable(43) – Competitive |
5. Yippee Ki Kai |
3yo filly from Allison Racing, Career earnings: $55,000 Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Fast finisher |
Comments: Allison Racing – you have to admire her persistence and this stable always putting runners in the firing line. Her horses are well trained and this filly is showing steady improvement. It may find in this final that the main contenders are a shade too sharp.
6. Blitzman |
3yo colt from RCS Locos, Career earnings: $343,250 Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Competitive |
Comments: RCS Locos is a five time world cup winner. He is a regular producer of cup standard horses. His age horses do take time to come to hand and Blitzman is no different, for now it just a watch on this colt .
7. Ninja |
3yo colt from Sunset, Career earnings: $300,237 Overall rating: Acceptable(43) – Stalker |
Comments: Sunset has been training up some nice horses and showing improvement each season. Ninja, a stalker that may take some working out, had some good form before the heats and may find the class a bit much, but a nice performance will give the trainer heart.
8. Brazen Beau |
3yo colt from Pugstable, Career earnings: $891,950 Overall rating: Acceptable(42) – Competitive |
9. Cleopatra |
3yo filly from MolietsSurfer, Career earnings: $52,500 Overall rating: Acceptable(43) – Needs space |
Comments: Well bred filly from the MoiletsSurfer yard. This stable keeps on putting out quality runners, as in the case of Cleopatra. She is taking time to show but is capable on her day. She is styled needs space, and may set a cracking pace up front to make the race interesting.
10. Holly Signor |
3yo filly from Cape Hall, Career earnings: $85,000 Overall rating: Acceptable(42) – Unpredictable |
Comments: Cape Hall’s big purchase as a 2yo just had 2 starts so far, with a best last week, 2nd in the Sunday heats. She looks like she will go in slightly underdone and being out of gate 10 may find itself wide early, given she is unpredictable, that just what she maybe in the final.
11. Prince Asiatic |
3yo colt from Durbridge, Career earnings: $0 Overall rating: Acceptable(41) – Natural champion |
Comments:Looks out of his depth here. He struggled in all his races to date and this race may be another repeat.
12. Doodee Rolly |
3yo filly from Rawhide, Career earnings: $688,600 Overall rating: Acceptable(43) – Early sprinter |
Comments: Doodee Rolly has fair form and a solid outing for 5th in last season Champagne Stakes. The stable is no duffer and has two world cups to its credit, the trainer knows what he is doing, and if the filly runs to her best, might crack top 5 in this race.
13. Kipper O’ Scarlett |
3yo colt from DPK Stables, Career earnings: $163,800 Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Breakaway |
Comments: Kipper O’ Scarlett certainly looks good on paper, he has decent experience, and being one of the highest rated in the field, could trouble the favorites
