The Aussie Clothing Down Under Epic
Another great crop of stayers for all to see. Some powerful horse flesh on display, any one of 4 or 5 can win, which makes for interesting betting. If forced to choose, I tossed a coin and damn it was 2 headed – so no more in the know – but if I had to have a stab in the dark the winner is SYDNEY oh sorry, olympics.
Anyway, Curie, Wishing Well and Rooster Cogburn can make a strong case for 2 or 3 others. Good luck betting, you may need your own crystal ball to tip this season’s Aussie Clothing Down Under Epic winner.
1. Valar Morghulis |
5yo mare from Troublemaker’s, Career earnings: $1,034,740 Overall rating: Excellent(60) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Champion breeder and multiple cup winning trainer Troublemaker steps out with his classy mare Valar Morghulis who been a steady performer on the cup scene, but not until the diamond did we see Valar Morghulis show that glimpse of form that saw her run 2nd to Curie. So that brings us to the Aussie epic and a solid 2nd to Wishing Well in his heat – certainly in the mix for top 3 in what looks a hard race.
2. Wishing Well |
5yo mare from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $2,837,261 Overall rating: Excellent(61) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Wishing Well, winner of the So You Think and from a very good stable whose trainer has more tricks than mandrake, just a case of what this trainer pulls from his bag of tricks, a rabbit or now you see me now you don’t trick. Does Wishing Well have his wish granted and beat all comers? With a string of wins to her name, including last week’s heat I suspect the cagey trainer may go very close to a win Saturday.
3. Lassiesdottir |
5yo mare from Double U Stables, Career earnings: $1,067,868 Overall rating: Excellent(62) – Breakaway |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Good trainer here and this stayer has some serious experience – with 11 wins from 16 starts knows how to win. Only 2 things that may worry the trainer; the fact she’s running on a slow track back to back and the fitness must be in question.
No doubt she produced a top run in the heats and if fit could be in the mix for a top 5, if not could be ugly.
4. Surfin’ Safari |
5yo mare from Winning Ways, Career earnings: $1,222,316 Overall rating: Excellent(63) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Young trainer going into her second year in the game and done a fine job with Surfin Safari – even though ran a tiring 4th in her heat the trainer would benefit from the experience. To the race, if the trainer can just change it up a bit run a more even race can be in the mix for a top 5 and no better place to learn than from a big final.
I wish her well always great to see stables step up to the cup level and do well.
5. Honey I’m Good |
5yo mare from Moonlight Stables, Career earnings: $1,206,160 Overall rating: Excellent(63) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS say – Princess of the track and has been getting a good taste of success in the last 2 seasons, maybe long overdue and has had her share of nice horses. Honey I’m Good just might be as sweet as her trainer but only been solid in her cup starts to date in what looks a very good field. Honey will have to improve just for the top 5 finish but lets not forget a lady full of confidence.
6. Sacktheboard |
5yo mare from Spanish Main, Career earnings: $730,000 Overall rating: Grand(65) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Lightly raced mare that in the hands of a talented trainer who has WC to his credit . Sacktheboard‘s best result was as a 3yo when 2nd in The Grand Prix De Paris, with high experience and conditions to suit, this mare could give a good performance, so from a value point of view has to be given some consideration.
7. Curie |
5yo mare from Shinibana, Career earnings: $1,550,000 Overall rating: Grand(66) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Curie from the Shinibana stable who has 11 WC wins to his credit and Curie delivered one in last season’s Diamond with a dominant display – all will be looking over their shoulder looking out for this tall mare. Can she repeat, possibly carries a lot of weight and may take a while to get going but if she does watch out.
8. Rooster Cogburn |
5yo stallion from Blackberry Farms, Career earnings: $1,827,111 Overall rating: Excellent(64) – Mud-lark |
Comments: CRACKERS says – Blackberry Farms no stranger to the stayers and can Rooster Cogburn follow in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe? Blackberry will be hoping so but rooster may need more time and should certainly run a nice race. Will the Aussie cup be within his reach? Maybe not, but one to watch moving forward.
9. Tiger Pug |
5yo stallion from Pugstable, Career earnings: $1,968,188 Overall rating: Admirable(56) – Natural champion |
Comments: CRACKERS says – This trainer certainly been among the elite breeders of the game in recent seasons and has picked up a cup last season that was long overdue, so at least knows he can compete at the level. Tiger Pug has been solid in his starts to date but will find the standard red hot so maybe looking for a dry track in the near future to break his maiden status.
