The 3rd leg of the 6yo Sprint/Short Triple Crown takes place on Saturday and with the winner of the first two legs failing to qualify, the race looks a pretty open affair. The distance of 1299 metres means this race could turn into a sprint and the horse with the best turn of foot could quite possibly end up the victor.

Interesting entrants include the three time World Cup winner Cotton Candy, the big ticket purchase Kickin Chicken, Magoo’s Willo The Wisp and the 4 million dollar purchase Wacek from the YellonkY stable. On pure ticket value, Kickin Chickin should turn this into a cakewalk, but does she have what it takes?

1. Cotton Candy

6yo mare from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $2,974,190
Overall rating: Excellent(61) – Mud-lark

Comments: The lightly raced daughter of Germanicus Cotton Candy made her seasonal debut last week and showed plenty pace to win her heat. She looks to have matured and strengthened into her 6yo term, and we expect her to add to her already impressive looking trophy cabinet.

2. Kickin Chicken

6yo mare from Manor Park Stud, Career earnings: $2,602,706
Overall rating: Grand(69) – Mud-lark

Comments: Manor Park Stud had to go to nearly $9m at auction to add this good looking daughter of Straight Liner to his stable. She hasn’t set the world alight yet, but we know it is just a matter of time. It is difficult to fault her and if she is good enough, she won’t be going home empty-handed.

3. Deadpixel

6yo stallion from Thunderspark Racing, Career earnings: $1,067,709
Overall rating: Grand(67) – Competitive

Comments: Audry Canup partners the unexposed 6yo Deadpixel, as he steps up in class. He may be worth including.

4. Makeup Impasse

6yo mare from Spuraholics, Career earnings: $2,304,211
Overall rating: Excellent(62) – Stalker

Comments: The lovely bred daughter of Fliss Deer has been thereabouts and could chase place stakes – even if outgunned on paper.

5. Willo The Wisp

6yo stallion from Magoo’s Fine Equine, Career earnings: $3,655,615
Overall rating: Grand(67) – Mud-lark

Comments: Magoo’s Fine Equine will have some hopes of toppling the big guns. He saddles that excellent short runner Willo The Wisp, and he must be considered at best.

6. Mohair Holiday

6yo mare from Gray Dog Stables, Career earnings: $2,463,035
Overall rating: Grand(68) – Fast finisher

Comments: She has won three of her nineteen starts and might find it difficult to feature here.

7. Shebabe

6yo mare from Gaspers, Career earnings: $2,921,501
Overall rating: Excellent(61) – Mud-lark

Comments: The 6yo mare from the Gaspers stable Shebabe caught the eye in her heat last week and could boost exactas and trifectas if getting some luck from that 7 draw.

8. Wacek

6yo stallion from YellonkY, Career earnings: $2,546,960
Overall rating: Grand(67) – Mud-lark

Comments: Wacek seldom runs a poor race and he could be the joker in the pack.

9. Morte Cinamon

6yo mare from zanzibar, Career earnings: $480,630
Overall rating: Grand(69)

Comments: Zanzibar saddles Morte Cinamon and this one time winner might battle in this company.

In conclusion, my pick for this race goes to the stable I consider the best age group trainer in the game – Cotton Candy to win it from Wacek and Willo The Wisp for 3rd. Kickin Chicken will need to show more on the track before getting any vote of confidence in a field of this quality.
