2 4 Americain Eagle Blackberry Farms Henry Sylvestre 1:47.252
3 2 Flying Zamboucca flying spurs Karine Negbenebor 1:47.505
4 1 Kingston Eclipse Angel’s Flight Niesha Cannuli 1:47.825
5 5 Grand Prince Durbridge Vicky Hackbarth 1:48.092

Eight runners will line up for The Australian Cup, an 1800 metre event for 4yo’s and with the weather looking rather hot for the weekend, the most decorated horse in the field – Kingston Eclipse (3 World Cup Wins) – may find the going a little too hard for his liking.

Blackberry’s Americain Eagle, Flying Spurs’ Samboucca and Graydog’s Cutlasse Supreme could very well be the main challengers in the fast conditions this weekend but Angel’s Flight is a very smart cup contender and could still lift the trophy against all odds.

1. Kingston Eclipse

4yo stallion from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $2,930,206
Overall rating: Admirable(57) – Mud-lark

Form: 1,1,1,1,4

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:30 (1:42.980)
Comments: – This three time world cup winner from the Angel’s Flight stable may not be perfectly suited to the dry weather anticipated for the weekend – he has however previously won a world cup on good ground when flying home in the Lowe Guineas and cannot be ignored.
Angel is known to have his charges cherry ripe on the day and Kingston Eclipse will be right there at the finish.

2. Flying Zamboucca

4yo stallion from flying spurs, Career earnings: $924,600
Overall rating: Admirable(58) – Competitive

Form: 6,4,2,3,1

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:40 (1:42.202)
Comments: – A very versatile horse having wins over short, medium and long, this Flying Spurs runner comes into the race with a creditable 3rd in the Lowe Guineas, not far off Kingston Eclipse. Zamboucca won his heat easily but not much can be read into that form – expect this one to be challenging at the business end.

3. Thingvellir

4yo stallion from Double U Stables, Career earnings: $400,281
Overall rating: Admirable(57)

Form: 1,6,1,1,1

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:30 (1:42.420)
Comments: – This unstyled, home bred from Double U Stables has solid form but steps up in class today. He could find it a tad difficult to make his presence felt but will come on well with the experience.

4. Americain Eagle

4yo mare from Blackberry Farms, Career earnings: $841,749
Overall rating: Admirable(56) – Needs space

Form: 3,2,5,1,1

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:50 (1:42.394)
Comments: – This beautifully bred daughter of Americain has the advantage over her peers in ability and experience. She has shown up strongly in previous cups and with Blackberry Farms in red hot form could very well be the one to beat. The small field should also be to the Needs Space mare’s liking and if Blackberry gets her placed right she could skip away in the final furlongs – treat with the utmost respect.

5. Grand Prince

4yo stallion from Durbridge, Career earnings: $511,362
Overall rating: Admirable(56) – Competitive

Form: 5,3,1,9,2

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:50 (1:42.971)
Comments: – This runner from the Durbridge stable is certainly lacking experience over the middle distance and has not really shown form to suggest he will be a major threat. Will come on with the experience no doubt.

6. Cutlass Supreme

4yo stallion from Gray Dog Stables, Career earnings: $1,123,900
Overall rating: Admirable(56) – Stalker

Form: 1,1,4,4,3

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:30 (1:42.859)
Comments: – With a solid 4th in the Lowe Guineas along with some decent form this season, Cutlass Supreme comes into this race with a very real chance. The small field won’t necessarily be to his liking, but these stalkers can break the hearts of both their owners and the opposition on any given day. Expect this one to be coming home strongly late and if placed properly, he could mow them all down for the win. Rates a big chance on form.

7. Lisco Fuel

4yo stallion from O Buadhaigh, Career earnings: $470,100
Overall rating: Reasonable(51) – Natural champion

Form: 4,2,2,8,2

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:30 (1:42.628)
Comments: – A late entry with more experience over further would suggest that Lisco Fuel will be looking to gain some experience from this race. Prefer others …

8. Ashleigh Rachel

4yo stallion from CatchMeIfYouCan, Career earnings: $405,649
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47) – Natural champion

Form: 1,4,5,1,4

Last race: Australian Cup Heats (1700m) at Sydney Harbour on 27-Feb-16 02:50 (1:44.855)
Comments: – With an apprentice jockey onboard, we can only assume that this stallion from CathmeIfYouCan is looking for experience and I can’t see him troubling the more fancied runners.
