The So You Think Cup is a highly prestigious event for 3yo’s, proudly sponsored by the Hareeba stables, in honour of one of Australia’s best horse racing exports – the mighty So You Think.

This son of High Chaparral is a winner of 10 Group 1 races, earned over $8,6m in stakes. A champion 3-year-old and miler in Australia–and Ireland’s highweighted older horse – So You Think took the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Tatts Cox Plate (Aust-I), Australia’s premiere weight for age event. In 2010 he also won the New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (Aust-II), the Rokk Ebony Underwood Stakes (Aust-I), the Caulfield Yalumba Stakes (Aust-I), and the Logines MacKinnon Stakes (Aust-I). Purchased by Coolmore and sent to Ballydoyle, he began a Northern Hemisphere campaign that resulted in victories in the 2011 editions of the High Chaparral E.B.F. Moorsebridge Stakes (Ire-III),  the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Ire-II), the Coral Eclipse Stakes (Eng-I), and the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I). In 2012 he won the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Ire-I) and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Eng-I). He retired to stud in 2012 and is currently standing at Coolmore Stud in Australia at a fee $49,500.

1. Lady Diva

3yo filly from Blackjack Farms, Career earnings: $736,300
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Fast finisher

Comment: The 3yo daughter of Lord Blackjack is a big girl with a lovely stride but her recent form suggests she may come up a few lengths short on these terms in this company. She hails from the Blackjack Farms stables, a real tough “cookie” to beat on her day. She ran a good race in the heat but failed to go through with her effort to finish 4th.

2. Patrobas

3yo colt from Manor Park Stud, Career earnings: $942,400
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Competitive

Comment: The master trainer, who is still looking for his first world cup win this season saddles a lovely son of Blue Tyndareus namely, Patrobas. He won the Grand Prix Stakes end of last season, he hails from the mighty Manor Park Stud stable and ran his heat in a new world record time, what is there not to like?

3. Smokegetsinyoureye

3yo colt from zephyr racing stable, Career earnings: $317,000
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47) – Needs space

Comment: The son of Pembleton steps up a rung here in terms of competition, but is well drawn and must have a place shout.

4. Acca Dacca

3yo colt from Raspadora Lodge, Career earnings: $420,800
Overall rating: Adequate(39) – Early sprinter

Comment: Acca Dacca is the lowest rated runner in the race, he ran a creditable 2nd last week. Place chance again

5. Orfevre

3yo colt from Karaka Breeders, Career earnings: $485,000
Overall rating: Reasonable(53) – Natural champion

Comment: Karaka Breeders is a class proven performer around the turn and his colt Orfevre, could just be the biggest danger to Patrobas, he must be respected. A big runner. Orfevre is an exciting sort, having won 2 from 3, his only loss been in the Epsom Derby last month in the slop.

6. Fridas Jeebus

3yo filly from DR Stables, Career earnings: $986,900
Overall rating: Satisfactory(45) – Needs space

Comment: DR Stables are going for their 5th cup of the season, his filly Fridas Jeebus ran a decent enough fifth in the heat last week and a repeat of that effort could see her burgle a place cheque. With luck in running and a decent pace, Dominque Donlin could get the best out of this game filly and a place chance is not beyond imagination.

7. Bungle Stated

3yo colt from O Buadhaigh, Career earnings: $242,000
Overall rating: Acceptable(43)

Comment: This runner ran the heat on Sunday, and might battle to gain full fitness before the final, to feature here.

8. Mozart Regal

3yo filly from Chingford Stable, Career earnings: $186,255
Overall rating: Satisfactory(47) – Needs space

Comment: The bay daughter of Grey Ghost, ran 8th in her heat last week, and will enjoy the outing.

9. Roxy Gekko Naughty

3yo filly from Rockstar Racing, Career earnings: $488,894
Overall rating: Satisfactory(48) – Stalker

Comment: Rockstar Racing brings their 3yo filly Roxy Gekko Naughty to the track, she has plenty scope for improvement, and could easily earn some stake money here.

10. Sweet Action

3yo filly from Benvenuto Stud, Career earnings: $133,375
Overall rating: Acceptable(42) – Unpredictable

Comment: Another runner who might battle to gain full fitness before the final, to really future here.

Summary:

This game tames lions and tigers and makes monkeys out of most of us – but the Manor Park Stud colt Patrobas stands out in this race to be run over 2050m on Saturday – off time 03h57. The LOWE raiders hold a strong hand and their runners appears to holding all the aces in capturing the trophy. They saddle the two smart colts Patrobas and Orfevre, and the rest of the runners face a tough task to beat those two. At the level weight terms of the race, it is difficult envisaging anything else spooking the top two.
