The real life OB won his first start by the stretch handily. Worked his way up though some low level stakes to a grade III. The day of his grade III race at Aksarben the most overrated jock in the history of horseracing was in town. Willie Shoemaker. Shoemakers looking for some mounts & the trainer decides to give him the mount over the regular rider. OB could go to the lead, but preferred to stalk within a few lengths. Shoemaker was instructed as such. What does Shoemaker decide to do? OB broke sharp in a 12+ horse field. Shoemaker takes him back all the way to last place and tries to put in a run in the final quarter mile. Moronic. Worst result of OB’s career. Destroyed his momentum working forward into graded stakes, but still had a fine career in lower level ones. I would punch Shoemaker in the face in his casket…
