The Jewel Of The Mile Cup

Challenging Choices Today

This season’s end feature has produced the quality goods over the years and big names like Scooby, Snopplennart, Wild Smokey and Damascus will be familiar to many. And we have yet another smashing field this time around.

The Crowsrock trained Addie Over Captain arrived with a bang in August when he sauntered home to win the Australian cup over 1800 metres on his coconut at Sydney Harbour. The son of Blitzkrieg Blitzman has been consistency personified and shocked the fans when benefiting from a pearler of a Michell Embelton ride to finish second in his penultimate start.

Trainer Angel’s Flight was also excited and said that not too many horses could work alongside Bozo The Clown. He joked that Bozo was ‘unconscious at home but woke up at the races.’ But Bozo The Clown did not live up to the confidence. He had two further starts at cup level against his own age group, and while not disgraced, he failed to feature.

Whole Lotta Love was ranked in high esteem by his astute trainer as a 2yo and she is the type of horse who could throw the cat amongst the pigeons if putting her act together.

Both Belle Epoque and Royal Flush are above average, and warrant respect.

There is little to choose between these runners and anyone of them would be a deserved winner.

But enjoy it, as this is what class racing action is all about.

1. Belle Epoque

4yo mare from Woogle Wood, Career earnings: $832,930
Overall rating: Admirable(58) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Jan 2016, bred by Woogle Wood
Lineage:By Afterburn out of Miesque Bolts
Recent form:3,2,4,5,1

Stable comments: – “This looks to be a competitive and fairly open race; run the race six times and you could get six different winners. Dangers abound, although two stand out – Bozo The Clown won’t be fooling around; and Blitzman‘s last two runs shows he is really coming on to a game. It’s taken a while to work my one out, but hopefully Belle Epoque‘s last run shows she is coming in to her own too.”

2. Bozo The Clown

4yo stallion from Angel’s Flight, Career earnings: $2,850,962
Overall rating: Reasonable(54) – Stalker
Born:Fri 8th Jan 2016, bred by Angel’s Flight
Lineage:By Why So Serious out of Stella Artois
Recent form:1,4,1,3,3

Stable comments: – ” Bozo can sometimes be a clown, he like clowning around to much for me and when its time to get serious he like to keep clowning. I guess his stalker like personality fits the bill, but we need him to focus more and take off the big red nose and shoes, remove the big red wig and just be plain ole Bozo, not a freaking clown in this Jewel finals.”

3. Addie Over Captain

4yo stallion from crowsrock, Career earnings: $1,510,000
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Competitive
Born:Fri 1st Jan 2016, bred by captaincrusoe
Lineage:By Blue Tyndareus out of Blue Rhea
Recent form:5,5,1,1,2

Stable comments: – “Good looking race this, a nice even field with everyone a good chance. Captain had a good run in the heats with the second fastest time, a slight tweak to the instructions and will be looking for a better run in the final. Really like my chances here, won easy in the last cup so looking for a repeat here.”

4. Blitzman

4yo stallion from RCS Locos, Career earnings: $1,341,250
Overall rating: Admirable(58) – Competitive
Born:Fri 1st Jan 2016, bred by RCS Locos
Lineage:By Blitzkrieg out of Oceana Month
Recent form:1,6,3,2,1

Stable comments: – “Blitzman is running reasonably well but he needs to put in a career best to beat Addie Over Captain who was fantastic in the Aussie Cup. Bozo the Clown and Belle Epoque are both real dangers as well.”

5. Royal Flush

4yo stallion from Blackjack Farms, Career earnings: $1,085,091
Overall rating: Admirable(58) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Jan 2016, bred by Blackjack Farms
Lineage:By Lord Blackjack out of Prancing Diva
Recent form:3,3,3,6,4

Stable comments: – “Royal Flush looks to improve on his lack luster cup prelim. From a family of milers, hopefully he will start to show his strong family running history in this race.”

6. Whole Lotta Love

4yo mare from Bristol Turks, Career earnings: $1,842,200
Overall rating: Admirable(57) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Jan 2016, bred by Journeyman
Recent form:1,4,3,4,6

Stable comments: – “I thought Whole Lotta Love has been struggling last couple of starts. So I decided to change up her jockey to see if it helps in the final. The horse will be fit so if she click with the jockey Love can come home a winner.”

7. Chief Libran

4yo mare from Yallamara Lodge, Career earnings: $180,540
Overall rating: Adequate(37)
Born:Fri 8th Jan 2016, bred by Kismet Park
