The Gnumad Cup – 25th June 2016 – River Nile Delta Racecourse

The GnuMad Cup

The Premier long race in the game and many outstanding long runners can lay claim to winning such a prestigious cup. This season, we see assembled a strong field of runners dominated by Manor Park’s Closing Zenobia – an all class multiple cup winning mare with great ability – still only 8yo so time is on her side but certainly a strong contender here. Other contenders include  Seascape Scientist, Celsius and Grand National, all 3 really look the goods and it would be no shock to see any one of the 4 named win in what could be a World Record time .

Of the rest we see pure quality in Rajun Cajun, Fergus Holly, Dark Aotearoa and No Much Hornail – these stables know all about winning big cups which is why this season’s Gnu is one of the best in some time.

1. Rajun Cajun

10yo stallion from DR Stables, Career earnings: $10,611,241
Overall rating: Marvelous(77) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Rajun Cajun is a recent purchase. Even though he has won both of his starts for us we’re still trying to figure out how to race him. The race is loaded with talent and looks to be wide open. We are hoping for a top 5 finish, but if every thing falls into place Rajun Cajun could surprise the field. But for that to happen he is going to have to increase his speed and run a lifetime best.”

2. Closing Zenobia

8yo mare from Manor Park Stud, Career earnings: $6,039,287
Overall rating: Majestic(84) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “Looks a top quality field with a few old rivalries thrown in for good measure. This cups maybe come a season early for mine but will hope to put up a good showing, still a bit tweaking to do with her training. Quite a few with a genuine chance but looking forward to racing against Seascape and Horntail again as both are great horses which contributed to some of my most enjoyable racing in game, both the wins and losses.”

3. Seascape Scientist

8yo mare from Desert Wind Stables, Career earnings: $6,011,845
Overall rating: Majestic(83) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – “Seascape, daughter to one of my top distance runners, has already managed to bag a few cups and I have high hopes for the Gnu. As a fast finisher the conditions are not ideal but I am hoping her stats will support a dead track and that unlike some of the other entries, having rested before the race will help. Closing Zenobia is no stranger to running cups alongside Seascape and throughout their career it has been a constant struggle between the two – Closing Zenobia taking the 2yo Grand Prix and breeders, as well as the Platinum Plate and more recently the Golden 8s, whereas Seascape came out top in the Lowe Cup and So You Think. Its quite a busy weekend for my stable and my only concern is the jockey, as her normal choice is already running in one of the Crimson Carnival races.”

4. Ferus Holly

10yo stallion from JamesBrown, Career earnings: $10,108,783
Overall rating: Majestic(83) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “I bought him this season to run league and for the Classic Cup. He won the Classic but has been very inconsistent in other races. He is like a naughty child when he is good he is very good but when he is bad he is horrible.”

5. Dark Aotearoa

10yo mare from Blackjack Farms, Career earnings: $11,228,786
Overall rating: Marvelous(78) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “A cracking race with plenty of talent. This will be the last race of the highly temperamental mare Dark Aotearoa. On a good day capable of great times, on a bad day it is like she is out for a stroll in the park. I hope that she can do what her stable mate did 2 seasons ago and win in her last race. Would be a great send off to her and for the stable.”

6. Seeking A Toyboy

10yo stallion from Lozzy Stables, Career earnings: $4,429,282
Overall rating: Majestic(80)

Stable comments: – “My own homebred Seeking A Toyboy (by Toyboy Nature out of Seeking Satori) may be the best horse the yard has ever owned, but he has consistently underachieved in his career to date. His earlier attempts at world cups and failure to win more than just one class 1 league race at GRAN over his career suggest he has little chance against this level of opposition. I would be delighted to finish in the first half of the field. I thought the cup to be an appropriate swansong however to give him one final chance of glory before his career at stud.”

7. Celsius

9yo stallion from Shinibana, Career earnings: $11,007,291
Overall rating: Majestic(83) – Competitive

Stable comments: – “I think both Noddack (runs in Pegasus Plate) and Celsius are going to be top three in the finals, but probably not win, but you never know?”

8. Cunning Een

9yo mare from El Taconazo Stables, Career earnings: $4,450,401
Overall rating: Reasonable(50)

Stable comments: – “

9. Discman

10yo stallion from Talisman’s Titans, Career earnings: $9,470,355
Overall rating: Marvelous(76) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “I just bought the stallion for breeding and so it is just for a bit of fun”

10. Nomuch Horntail

8yo mare from ghanainternational, Career earnings: $5,781,999
Overall rating: Marvelous(78) – Fast finisher

Stable comments: – ” Nomuch Horntail has been racing Seascape Scientist and Closing Zenobia at world cup juvenile level for 4 seasons, however, has never beaten them both in the same race, it would be nice if she broke that record in the GNU Final. Don’t know much about the other runners but I’d expect there are a few others in with a chance. I am hoping for a big run, the jockey horse combination looks good and the horse should be in good shape for the race.”

11. Grand National

10yo stallion from coniston, Career earnings: $9,028,519
Overall rating: Majestic(83) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “A horse that under achieved for the first few seasons but has really done well over the last 2. Has finished 3rd in this cup before and I would be really disappointed if he wasn’t top 3 again. Manor Park has an entry so no one can feel overly confident. This is the horses last race before he stands as the stables main stud for the next 2 seasons”

12. Fat Beef

6yo stallion from Klaatu Barada Nikto, Career earnings: $1,048,180
Overall rating: Admirable(55) – Natural champion

Stable comments: – “
