Trainer Zane holds a powerful hand in Saturday’s Pegasus Plate over 1700m. He has done exceptionally well with his five year old mare Northern Skies, with her winning the last medium cup for the age group, The Jewel Of The Mile. She oozes class and the obvious horse to beat.
The roan stallion from the Sootie yard, Lump Of Ice, has won six of his seventeen starts and produced a dazzling display over 1600m last time when he simply ran away from his field. He is expected to make them run for their lives. The evergreen Smirr is back for more after her game third to Northern Skies in the Jewel of The Mile. Ignore this bay flyer at your peril!
D R Stable’s runner, the multiple world cup winner Nyquist, will have his supporters despite the low overall rating. The 1700m looks likely to suit him down to the ground. The son of Blitzen has a superb finishing effort and has one of our best jockeys in the saddle in Ferdinand Blixt. Salamandar Spurs ran a cracker at her penultimate start when winning the Aussie Clothing Down Under Long cup. She will strip a fit horse on Saturday and must have a chance.
Keane Coney and Nimrod Alben both looks looks very promising, and decent efforts is expected.
