‘It Take Two To Tango’
A common idiomatic expression which suggests something in which more than one person or other entity are paired in an inextricably-related and active manner. This definitely relates to this weekend Ascot Vale Cup with Christastarz, out of Woodchuckers stable, and Badgerindabathroom, out of Team Monkfish. Both horses will square off and go toe to toe with each other once again to see who got the goods. One thing these two horses have in common, they both like to do the dance called the slop. When you look at the tale of the tape both horses are closely matched in overall ratings, styles, experience, and form. But their is one difference between the two, and that is Christastarz, is the 2yo Golden Slipper title holder and will be looking to add another crown.
But there is another filly in the race by the name of Grey Street who would love to interrupt the tango and show off her new dance moves. She’s also familiar on how to do the slop, but added some new dance moves in her repertoire. As for the other horses, the slop is really not their forte, but they are willing to try, and who knows, they may even get lucky at it.

1. Christastarz |
3yo colt from woodchuckers, Career earnings: $1,293,150 Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Mud-lark |
Stable comments: – “Been very good since the very start, sire was Most Awesome Ever he sure delivered. Christa been very good and went better than I expected in the heat. So based on that the slow ground that expected he in with a big chance. Obvious dangers Badgerindabathroom huge chance well trained has been running really well. Hareeba has Grey Street has ability a great trainer of sprinters I expect Hareeba horses always to be a danger.”
2. Grey Street |
3yo filly from Hareeba, Career earnings: $586,200 Overall rating: Acceptable(42) – Mud-lark |
Stable comments: – “Woody’s looks the one to beat in the final. Mine will be running for more experience and will need the more fancied runners to have an off day to have a sneaky chance.”
3. Valasca |
3yo filly from Thunderspark Racing, Career earnings: $219,800 Overall rating: Acceptable(44) – Breakaway |
Stable comments: – “
4. Badgerindabathroom |
3yo filly from Team Monkfish, Career earnings: $772,700 Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Mud-lark |
Stable comments: – “Badgerindabathroom won her heat and looks to renew a growing rivalry with Woody’s Christastarz. I fear a repeat of the Golden Slipper final, however, where the additional distance from heat(s) to final was a stretch too far for my runner. Improvements have been made since but I’m unsure if it will be enough to bridge the gap at this time. The ground will suit the Muddies, who dominated regardless in ‘Dead’ heats, so I would personally expect/guess at a Christastarz, Badgerindabathroom, Grey Street podium.
Good luck to all involved!
5. Slow Lover |
3yo colt from Sinthville, Career earnings: $225,319 Overall rating: Acceptable(41) – Breakaway |
Stable comments: – “Going to be as it should be for a final, tough. It is hard to look past the mudlarks, especially woodchuckers and Hareeba has bags of experience in cup finals. My Slow Lover, I bought the horse with that name. Let me tell you, he doesn’t love slow ground, he doesn’t even like bloody running so expect a normal Sinthville effort here.”
6. Avalanche |
3yo filly from skifam21, Career earnings: $230,600 Overall rating: Satisfactory(46) – Fast finisher |
