The Halo Cup – 21st January 2017

The Halo Cup

“Storm Chasers”

A small but powerful field will make their way to the start in the inaugural Halo Cup on Saturday. The quality of the field is illustrated by more than half of the runners having earned World Cups in their short racing careers, namely; Bounty Hunter (The Great Sphinx), Ride The Lightning (3yo Short Breeders), Ching Infinity (Sires Produce) and most recently No Nukes Hanover (The Epona Cup). Apart from these undisputed champions, the remainder of the field have come very close to winning a World Cup – could this be their weekend to shine?

A glance at the weather suggests the track will be quick on Saturday and a 5yo World record may well be on the cards.

One can be sure the Manor Park runner Ching Infinity will look to jump well and dictate things up front but will certainly have it all to do in the final quarter when the fast finishers put in their bids. In all honesty, the entire field has a chance to win this one, looking forward to a fascinating contest.

Overall rating: Excellent(62) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by St Simon Racing
Lineage:By Blue Tyndareus out of Athena

Stable comments: – “So many variables can happen in this race which I consider one of the best and toughest age group assembled together probably in a long time. Bounty Hunter is looking to regain his old form and with a few changes in his regimen hopefully he will respond and be up to the task at hand. Summa Cum Laude for the horse who come out victorious, good luck to all the participants.”

Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by Bristol Turks
Lineage:By What A Rush out of Iced Honey

Stable comments: – “Lightning had an ok heat, came out a little worse than I expected but ok nevertheless. Horse will be fit and going should be good for the final, and assuming jock/horse combo also works, Lightning could finish in Top 4.”

Overall rating: Admirable(59) – Fast finisher
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by Happy Skipper Stable

Stable comments: – “The stars are light, the stars are bright- will No Nukes bring home shiny chrome. He’s up against the big boys once again, but now looking to bring home his second cup. The looks of it any one can win this race. Lets have a good race and good luck to all.”

Overall rating: Excellent(62) – Early sprinter
Born:Fri 1st Apr 2016, bred by JEDIMIND
Lineage:By Kushiel out of Jefferson Starship

Stable comments: – “With very little between a number of these its hard to say how things will pan out. Think there’s been different winners of each short cup with this group up to now. Could easily see that continue with some nice horses yet to pick up silverware. Ching really needs to bolt the start to stand a chance here as stamina could be an issue.”

Stable comments: – “I’m only running in the final so that Morning Poke gets to be featured in this write up. No chance at the win but these horses always provide a great race to watch.:
